National Yorkie Day began in 2009 thanks to a small group of dog lovers who ran TheWoofBookGroup.com. They wanted to create a fun, meaningful day to honor the Yorkshire Terrier.
These tiny dogs have huge personalities, and the group felt they deserved their own spotlight. Instead of picking a random date, they chose one that already carried meaning in the breed�??s history.
The date lines up with Yorkshire Day, which celebrates the region in northern England where the breed first appeared.
