Overview

About the event

Cantabria Day was first celebrated in 1967, thanks to the initiative of the mayor of Cabez??n de la Sal. He originally called it the Day of the Mountains, aiming to honor the region??s rich culture and deep historical roots.

The idea quickly resonated with locals, who embraced the opportunity to express their pride in Cantabria??s unique traditions.

The celebration was so well received that it was declared an event of national tourist interest just a few years later, in 1971.

After Cantabria gained autonomy within Spain in 1982, the celebration was renamed Cantabria Day in 1983. This new name reflected the region??s distinct identity and its importance within the broader Spanish nation.

Over time, Cantabria Day grew into a major cultural event that highlights the region??s traditions, from music and dance to traditional crafts and cuisine.

The day remains a powerful symbol of regional pride, attracting both locals and visitors who come to experience Cantabria??s unique cultural heritage??.
