The Thoughtful Traveller Day began in 2022. A travel company called The Thinking Traveller created it with a simple goal�??to support the small, local places that make trips meaningful.
After the pandemic, many family-run shops, markets, and eateries faced serious challenges. With fewer visitors, they lost income and struggled to stay open. The company saw this and wanted to help.
Antoine Levy, who leads marketing at The Thinking Traveller, introduced the idea. He encouraged travellers to slow down and remember one special place they visited. A friendly review or short post could bring that place new life.
On August 12 of that year, the first Thoughtful Traveller Day was launched.
People were invited to share memories using the hashtag #TheThoughtfulTraveller. That small action helped others find hidden spots and gave owners a boost.
Travel writers, news outlets, and tourism blogs helped spread the word. The day quickly grew beyond the company that started it. Each year, more people take part. The message stays the same: small acts while travelling can mean a lot.
