About the event
The Lakshadeepam festival at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram will take place on January 14, 2026 (Makara Sankranti), as the culmination of the Murajapam ritual which begins on November 20, 2025. This ancient and grand ceremony involves the lighting of one lakh oil lamps to signify the "Lakshadeepam".
The Murajapam is a 56-day ritual involving the continuous chanting of the Vedas and Vishnu Sahasranamam (a hymn of a thousand names of Lord Vishnu).
