Overview

About the event

Cap Classique Day began in South Africa to honor the country??s top sparkling wine. It started in 2020, launched by the Cap Classique Producers Association.

They picked this day to celebrate bottle-fermented wines made in the traditional style.

The group wanted to bring attention to local producers who follow strict methods and keep quality high.

The first Cap Classique wine was made in 1971 by Frans Malan at Simonsig Estate. He used the same fermentation method as Champagne but worked with local grapes.

That bold step led to a growing tradition. More winemakers joined the movement, and the style took off across the country.

Over time, South Africa gained respect for this category. Winemakers created new blends, aged their wines longer, and shared their bottles around the world.

The association chose one day each year to celebrate all of it ?? the craft, the people, and the bubbles. Since then, tastings, events, and new releases have marked each Cap Classique Day.
