About the event
In the year 1524, Portuguese missionaries established the Basilica of
Our Lady of Ransom, also known as the National Shrine Basilica of Our
Lady of Ransom, at Vallarpadam in Ernakulam. They enshrined a painting
of the Lady of Ransom, which soon became renowned for the numerous
miracles attributed to it by the local community.
